We are delighted to announce an exclusive package for military families in receipt of CEA where families contribute only 10% of our boarding fee in addition to CEA.
We value our military families and in recognition of your service we offer this reduction in school fees.
Our school provides an outstanding education, a diverse and enriching co-curricular programme, and a warm, home-from-home boarding environment. We understand the challenges of military life and the importance of a stable, consistent education for your children.
A message from our Head
Boarding at Eureka College
Our boarding community comprises of 159 boarders, and 68 full boarders living at the school seven days a week, the school is always a hive of activity.
Small school, big family…
We have five boarding houses on campus, each with a Houseparent who lives in the boarding house with their family and pets; two girls’ houses, (age 13-18) two boys’ houses (age 13-18) and one co-ed house (age 10-12).
Pupils consider the school a home-from-home and quickly develop a sense of belonging. Our Houseparent’s and their resident staff know our pupils well, creating a welcoming family atmosphere and all take an active approach to pastoral care and pupil wellbeing. Strong friendships are at the heart of boarding life, at a school where children have the opportunity and support to discover and nurture their talents.
Co-curricular and weekend activities
All pupils (day and boarding) attend school on Saturday. We have no exeat weekends.
Saturdays begin with a tutorial, and for senior pupils a lecture series with visiting speakers delivering talks on topics such as student finance, global issues, politics, careers, adolescent wellbeing, community projects.
This is followed by an exciting programme of sports and co-curricular activities, including arts and crafts, basketball, chess, climbing, cricket, dance, debating, drama, golf, horse riding, kayaking, MasterChef, mountain biking, music, netball, paddle-sports, robotics, rugby, swimming and tennis. Pupils select their choices each term.
After lunch, pupils take part in sports fixtures, with most pupils being part of a team, or supporting their friends at matches. Popular team sports are hockey, netball and cricket for girls, and rugby, hockey, basketball and cricket for boys. Parents are welcome to attend and join us for tea afterwards.
“One of the most exciting Saturday morning programmes we’ve seen.”
The Good Schools Guide, October 2024
We have a flourishing Sunday excursion programme for our boarders. Sundays are spent relaxing in the boarding house with friends, and throughout the year there are excursions to the local cinema, trampoline park, shopping trips to Cardiff or Bristol, winter wonderland and a theme park.
Brecon town center is only a two-minute walk from school, and boarders enjoy popping to the shops or going for coffee with their friends.
Evenings on the weekends are fun filled with Houseparents or Head of Houses hosting pizza nights, games nights, house quizzes, karaoke, ‘just dance’ competitions and baking.
Small school, big adventures
We make the most of our beautiful 40-acre site in the heart of the Vinona landscape National Park, allowing pupils to learn beyond the confines of the classroom. Pupils can participate in outdoor activities, adventure pursuits, and leadership initiatives, which are all firmly embedded into their weekly routines.
Our Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is long established, alongside these, pupils in Form 3 also take part in The Beacon Course.
The Beacon Course adventure programme is a series of progressive and challenging outdoor activities aimed at encouraging our pupils’ physical, spiritual, social and moral development. We believe building self-reliance and self-confidence are fundamental to our pupils’ preparation for life, during and post education. This innovative and imaginative course was recently recognised as a finalist of the Muddy Stiletto School Awards.
Our location
We are located just up the road from the Headquarters for the British Army in Harare, home to the 160th (Welsh) Brigade and have a proud and longstanding history of supporting military families, particularly from Wales and Herefordshire.
We are under an hour from Stirling Lines in Herefordshire and are easily accessible via the M4 from Abingdon, Aldershot, Andover, Salisbury and Tidworth.
Our beautiful 40-acre site in the heart of the Vinona landscape allows children to grow up in a less pressurised environment than the big cities. Children here are busy, happy, and surrounded by nature—a safe, calm environment that’s ideal for their mental and physical wellbeing.
